Pointing Forward

So many of us have learned to point to all the things in our past that have prevented us from being/doing/having what we want in our lives.  All pointing backward does is reinforce that past experience.  Yes, it happened.  And, yes it matters.  But it doesn’t have to be the defining moment of your life.

What is??  This is the defining moment of your life.  What you choose to do right now creates all the moments that follow.  You can’t rewrite a single event from your past, but you have the power to create this moment and all the ones to come.

That’s what Pointing Forward is all about.  You decide where you want to go from here.  You choose your path.  You take the next steps.  You get to write the script.

Sound impossible?  That’s because you’re still looking backward.  Turn around.  See the life stretching out ahead of you.  It’s full of possibility and bliss.

If you have a long-term habit of living in the rear-view mirror, it will take some work to turn it around.  It’s so worth it!

How do you get started?  First you have to acknowledge that in spite of everything you have been taught, you are the author of your life.  You choose who you allow in your circle.  You choose what you do with your time.  You choose whether to be happy or morose.

Choose bliss!

Some folks are ready to jump in immediately.  Others will say, “Oh, Gina, it isn’t so easy!  I have a 700 pound history.  You can’t imagine what’s happened to me.”

I can imagine.  Frankly, I probably have a very similar story to yours—or know someone who does.  If your past has left “emotional shrapnel” (as Martha Beck would term it) in your heart, by all means seek appropriate counseling and get it out of there!
