Welcome

Ned Andrew Solomon is an artist, writer and musician. Born in New York City in 1957, Ned lived in New York State for 18 years before moving to Baltimore, Maryland in 1975, to attend the Writing Seminars program at Johns Hopkins University. For several years during and following his education at Hopkins, Ned’s bands No Mercy and Poetic Justice - which featured his original compositions – performed at several Baltimore live music venues. In 1988, Ned moved to Nashville, TN to pursue a career as a songwriter.

As fortune would have it, Ned did not continue with his aspirations in the music business, but did progress in his career as a freelance writer, with work published in over 20 magazines, newspapers, newsletters and websites.

At his “day job”, Ned is the Director of Partners in Policymaking for the Tennessee Council on Developmental Disabilities. In that work, Ned facilitates leadership trainings for individuals with disabilities and family members of persons with disabilities. He is also managing editor of the Council’s magazine, Breaking Ground, and editor-in-chief of The Echo, the newsletter of the Autism Society of Middle Tennessee.

In 2004, Ned began to explore his artistic side, an outgrowth of the intricate doodles he’d been putting on paper since early childhood. Although he dabbles in numerous media, frequently collaborating on watercolor quilt collages with artist and life partner, Gina Lynette, Ned’s primary focus is elaborate, richly hued, colored pencil creations which feature curious creatures intermingling and inhabiting every inch of the paper. “I enjoy work that you can’t grasp in its entirety on first viewing,” says Ned. “I believe the longer you look at one of my pieces, and on return visits to it, the shapes evolve into characters you didn’t spot before.

“And although I appreciate all kinds of art, I want my pieces to be uplifting, not off-putting. They are typically created during my times of extreme relaxation and personal well-being, so I can only hope that people who view my art - or choose to decorate their walls with it - will feel the same way.”
